Free Coffee! (at the upcoming Coffeehouse)

Our YAB meeting today is for the final preparations for the library's first ever Teen Coffeehouse. Free coffee, good music and food are the big attractions. The details: Friday, June 11, 7-8:30pm in the Library Activity Room. Even if you haven't been able to attend meetings, you should stop by the coffeehouse!

I've read a couple of good books recently, all of which are new(ish) to the YA collection at the library.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini
- A great start to a new fantasy trilogy - and written by a teen! It has all of the great quest components, dragons, swords, mystery and a main character who is trying to learn the truth about his past. Make sure you put it on hold today.

The Year of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn Moriarty
- An inter-school assignment requires Emily, Lydia and Cassie to write letters to students at their rival high school in Sydney, Australia. One girl has a car-stealing sweetheart as a pen pal, one writes to an artist with a penchant for challenges, and the third might be writing to a psychopath or an imaginary friend - nobody knows. The story is told entirely through letters and emails, following the course the girls' tenth grade year at school. It reads quickly and is lots of fun!

Double Helix by Nancy Werlin
- If you like mysteries or psychological thrillers, then this book is for you. Just after his senior year of high school, Eli begins working for a genetic research company and uncovers a shocking secret about himself.
