Calling All Babysitters
Random House's Teen Division (Teens@Random) is hosting a contest in conjunction with the new book The Nannies. Enter by sharing your most challenging babysitting experience, and you could win a spa day for two! Go to the Teens@Random site and enter by December 31.
If you win and are looking for someone to take on your spa day, I'm sure I could find time in my schedule (hint, hint) ;)

Banned Books Week
This is Banned Books Week, a week dedicated to fighting censorship and celebrating freedom. Did you know that, in many countries, people do not have the right to read anything they want? And, even in this country, books get challenged or banned every day? Often the rationale for challenging books is to "protect children" from things deemed inappropriate. But, that includes you! Do you want people telling you that you can't read certain books?
Celebrate your freedom to read - read a banned book! The display in the Teen Corner includes books that have been banned or challenged in recent years. They're covered in brown paper with the reasons they were challenged written on front. Can you guess what the titles are? Flip the books over to find out; you may be surprised.

X Marks the Spot: New Graphic Novels
I just got a big delivery with some new books for the Teen Corner. In the shipment was Ex Machina by Brian Vaughn (which was requested by an anonymous reader a few weeks ago) and the next few issues of xxxHolic by Clamp.
Anxious to get your hands on these? Then come to our next Youth Advisory Board (YAB) meeting on Tuesday, September 27 at 4:30pm. All the new books will make their first appearances there before getting put on the shelf.

I just stopped by the Best Books for Young Adults page to update some of my booklists and I got a great surprise. There are pictures of teens from the last BBYA Teen Forum on the page....and North Reading teens are right up front! Check out the BBYA page to see YAB members Declan, Brigid, Mary and Tawnya.

First YAB Meeting of the Year!
It's that time of year again....and, no, I'm not talking about school :) It's time for Youth Advisory Board (YAB) meetings to start up again. I'm sure you're all so thrilled that you can barely contain your excitement. Me, too.
Our first YAB meeting is Tuesday, September 13, 4:30-5:30pm (note: we're back to our regular time). And, of course, we'll be in the Library Activity Room. With lots of good food ;)
Bring yourself, bring a friend and bring a list of your most recent favorite CDs. I hope to see you there!
